What is Web2.0? Hard to say unless you really dig into the purpose of all technologies that are currently employed by the so called Web2.0 Applications/Websites. During the course of the research on Web2.0 Security Issues I’ve carried out in the last couple of months, I really needed to do that in order to find out the inner most basic blocks of this emerging technology. For this purpose I needed to come up with several sets of mind maps just to put my thoughts in order. You will be able to preview all of them soon.
The mind map above outlines the most basic characteristics of what Web2.0 is as seen in my mind. Probably there are a lot more things we can add to it, although I find it a good enough solution to provide the basic picture. Feel free to let me know about other basic characteristics that should be part of this map.
Well, what I’m wondering is why people always try to rephrase or redefine what has alreay been well defined by others.
There is no “What is Web 2.0″, there is no “it’s hard to say” and you don’t even need to dig deep into this theme to understand what it is about. All those questions seem irrelevant to me.
If you read Tim O’Reillys statement on Web 2.0, the initial idea behind the term, you should get a very good understanding of what exactly Web 2.0 is about.
There are some key technologies or lets say key aspects, since not everything has in fact to do with technology. Those are RIA, SOA and the SocialWeb which by the way means interaction with the application, not participating on forums or other not Web 2.0 communities.
Of course these terms have a little bit of superficiality but they certainly do not allow for much interpretation. If you really want to create a detailed map of Web 2.0, then start with these.
